All of our aircraft are certified for IFR flight and are equipped with GPS with the exception of our Travelair, Cessna 180H amphibian floatplane and our aerobatic Citabria.

The flight fees for flight are paid on Hobbs time for the hours flown.  A positive balance is required at all times in your Flight Fee account. Normally, no time is charged for ground instruction given at the flight line.

BBCC is an accredited college flight program.  While attending BBCC our students normally complete an Associate in Arts & Science (two year transferable degree) as well as an Applied Science Technical Degree in Aviation (Commercial Pilot).  Many of our students also start a third degree in our Aviation Maintenance Technology program or with Central Washington University, or another 4 year University while attending BBCC.

AVERAGE COSTS OF CERTIFICATES AND RATINGS

As of November 27, 2007, the last 61 flight students to complete our basic program spent on average $25,329.31 on flight lab fees.  Our basic program is a FAA Part 141 Commercial Pilot Course with examining authority, which will give the student a Private Pilot Certificate, Commercial Pilot Certificate with an Instrument Rating, Single Engine Land.

Our flight courses are designed so students will complete the following certificates & ratings prior to:

  • Private Pilot Certificate by the end of the first year,

  • Instrument Rating & Commercial Pilot Certificate by the end of the second year,

  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating normally done the summer quarter of the second year,

  • Multi-Engine normally added to the Commercial Pilot Certificate the summer quarter of the second year if a CFI is not added,

  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFII) Instrument normally complete while working as a junior instructor (CFI) at BBCC fall quarter of the third year,

  • Multi-Engine Instructor normally added after completion of a CFII.

If a student chooses to add on a Multi-Engine Rating to their Commercial Pilot Certificate the average cost for flight aircraft rental/lab fees for the last 10 flight students was $2,407.01(as of 03-27-2007).

To add a Certified Flight Instructor Certificate the average cost for flight aircraft rental/lab fees for the last 10 flight students was $4,561.37(as of 03-27-2007).

The total average cost for flight fees to complete our Professional Pilot Course (Private Pilot Certificate, Commercial Pilot Certificate with Instrument Rating Single Engine Land), & add on a Multi-Engine Rating and Certificate Flight Instructor Certificate is $32,297.69.

Commercial Pilot Program Approximate costs

BASED ON AVERAGE FLIGHT TIMES (NOT MINIMUM)

AND COMPLETION OF THE AA&S TRANSFER DEGREE

This sheet will give you an idea of the cost to attend the Big Bend Community College Flight Program. It is designed to show the average cost of the program (not minimum) and assumes that you will be completing the AA&S transfer degree.  The cost also assumes that you will live in the college dormitories and will eat in the college cafeteria. Out of state students should add $132 per quarter and international students should add $1967.10 per quarter for tuition expenses.  Because it would be possible to start the program and then be unable to finish due to lack of funds, it is suggested that you fill in the “source of funds” column for your seven quarters to complete, so plan on at least one summer quarter.
