 Reminders and Recommendations

The ECE program has been redesigned for the 2011-2012 academic year. Students who started the ECE program prior to fall 2009 are required to complete their degree by June 30th, 2012. After this date, students must complete the additional degree requirements that were added this year. For a list of the courses, refer to the BBCC Catalog: 2011%20to%202012_Catalog.pdf

Students must pass a background check in order to complete the degree requirement.

Recommendations for New Students:

  • Complete admissions process at: default.aspx
  • Contact ECE Program Coordinator to create a program plan
  • Complete Math, English, CMST& 220-Public Speaking, CSS 104-Introduction to Computer Literacy(suggested this be completed PRIOR to taking an online class), ECE 100-Introduction to Issues and Trends in ECE and EDUC& 115-Child Development within first year, if possible.

Summer/Fall 2012 Updates:

No ECE and/or EDUC classes will be offered this summer. Look for the summer/fall schedule available online the first week in May:schedule.aspx

Summer and fall early registration for current BBCC students begins May 21st. Summer quarter begins July 2nd and fall quarter begins September 24th.

 Early Childhood Education Program

The Early Childhood Education Program prepares students to work with children ages birth to eight as preschool teachers, assistants, child care providers, para educators or child care administrators in professional settings such as:
  • Head Start/ECEAP Programs
  • Migrant Programs
  • Preschool Programs
  • Public Schools
  • Child Care Centers
  • Family Homes

Students taking courses through the Early Childhood Education Program may be interested in variety of outcomes:

  • Associate in Applied Science Professional/Technical (AAS) (90 credits)
  • Certificate of Accomplishment Professional/Technical (43 credits)
  • Child Development Associate National Credential (CDA) (12 credits)

Transfer Degree Options to Baccalaureate Institutions:

  • Associate in Arts & Science Direct Transfer Agreement Degree-Elementary Education (DTA/MRP)
